The Institute for Air Hygiene in Berlin certifies: Conformity with hygiene stipulations as set forth in VDI 6022

The first fan-coil unit with a seal of approval for hygiene is from GEA
An independent testing agency has recently verified the following for GEA Happel Klimatechnik GmbH:  fan-coil units in the GEA Flex-Geko range enable hygienically flawless operation. After GEA Flex-Geko passed prototype testing, the Institute for Air Hygiene in Berlin (ILH) certified for the recirculated-air models in the Flex-Geko range that their operation poses no danger for human health. The maintenance possibilities offered by the range are also in accordance with the recommendations of VDI 6022, which served as basis for the test. “Our fan-coil model is the first for which this attestation has been provided by ILH, and the first in Germany available with this seal of hygiene approval,” reports Wolf Hartmann, CEO of GEA Happel Klimatechnik. This certification is also relevant for the Swiss market, since SWKI VA 104-01 and the VDI guideline are analogous in content.

The Institute for Air Hygiene in Berlin (ILH) is a research institute that developed from origins in Berlin universities. It deals with hygiene problems in ventilation systems, seeks technical solutions for these problems, and tests systems for conformity with hygiene criteria.

Scientists at ILH tested the GEA Flex-Geko model to determine whether dirt or debris could collect in the unit and develop into potential sources of microbes. The institute paid special attention to the critical synthetic parts and their surfaces:  e.g., the insulation, the condensate collector, the filter frames, and the filter media. The result of testing:  “GEA Flex-Geko is microbially inert.”
