International filter innovation: melting instead of incineration
Synthetic bag filters with excellent fire-prevention properties
The filter company GEA Delbag-Luftfilter Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH, of Herne, Germany, presents an international filter innovation: its new FireTex filters, which consist of an especially enhanced polypropylene fleece. These filters are fire-resistant, do not develop smoke, and do not drip in case of fire. The outstanding fire-prevention properties of these synthetic filters – thanks to an enhancement processing technique for which a patent has been applied – have now been officially confirmed: The German Automotive Inspection Agencies (DEKRA) have now classified FireTex filters in Class B, in accordance with DIN EN 13 501-1 2007, the European standard for construction materials. In addition, FireTex filters have also been classified as s1 for smoke development and d0 for dripping in case of fire.
With these new FireTex filters, GEA Delbag filter experts have satisfied the wishes of numerous customers who have searched for better fire protection for their HVAC solutions. Conventionally, fire-protection flaps are used to prevent the spread of fire throughout a building through HVAC systems. These flaps, however, offer no protection from fires within such HVAC systems themselves. Synthetic FireTex filters provide the required support here, since GEA developers have modified the filter material, so that, in case of fire, it melts before it can burn.
FireTex filters by GEA Delbag are highly effective for application in buildings that are frequented by large numbers of people, and in which reduction of fire pollution is critically important. Examples of such facilities are airports, hospitals, convention and congress centers, theaters, hotels, catering facilities, as well as applications in industry and commerce.
