The recently opened Saarland prehistoric theme park “Gondwana – the Prehistorium” is air conditioned by GEA systems
Three central air-handling units from GEA Happel Klimatechnik GmbH, in Herne, were selected for installation by the HVAC company LKS Lüftungs- und Klimaanlagenbau GmbH, in Grosspoesna, Germany. The purpose of the units is to climate-control the prehistoric theme park “Gondwana – the Prehistorium.” In the entrance and exhibit halls the air-handling units create optimal air conditions – for visitors who investigate prehistoric oceans, or come within arm’s reach of dinosaurs in their trip through prehistoric ages. Gondwana has been open since mid-December of 2008, and from the very first weekend the technical systems were required to prove that they could handle fresh-air requirements for large numbers of people. Together with press, prominent guests, and politicians – including former US Vice President Albert A. Gore, Jr. – the operators Gondwana Betriebs GmbH opened the new theme park on 13 December 2008.
Since 13 December the Saarland state of Germany has enjoyed one additional attraction: in Landsweiler-Reden the company Gondwana Betriebs GmbH opened its theme park “Gondwana – the Prehistorium.” In addition to honoured guest Peter Müller, Governor of the Saarland, former US Vice President Albert A. Gore Jr. attended to deliver the opening address. The visitors to this theme park can now take a trip through the earth’s history in a hall complex 4,000 m² in size. During one day, they can learn, in enjoyable fashion, interesting information on millions or even billion of years in the past.
If some of the visitors feel a shiver down their spines during their tour through Silurian, Jurassic, and Cretaceous Ages, then this is due to the stunning display of extinct forms of life, and not the fault of the air conditioning system. The unique combination of adventure park and an education facility for natural history has spellbound its visitors with advanced animation technology and audio-visual systems.
In order that families can enjoy with excitement and good mood the virtual immersion in prehistoric oceans, and marches through prehistoric jungles inhabited by Tyrannosaurus rex, the customer contracted various air-handling units from GEA Happel Klimatechnik GmbH to be installed. The company LKS Lüftungs- und Klimaanlagenbau GmbH (from Grosspoesna, Germany) installed a GEA CAIR in the entrance hall, which conditions up to 16,000 m³/h and which is also provided as a weather-proof model for the outdoor exhibits. A larger GEA CAIR unit is integrated into the building shell to provide up to 30,000 m³/h of air for the visitors’ area. Since the ventilation network installed here does not reach the small adjacent rooms, one flat GEA ATpicco unit complements the technical systems. Energy recovery functions in the units assure cost-effective and resource-economical operation.
